Schizandra (Schisandra chinensis) is a woody vine native to northeastern Asia that produces distinctive bright red berries. Known as "five-flavor berry" or "wu wei zi" in traditional Chinese practices, these berries uniquely contain all five basic flavors—sweet, salty, bitter, sour, and pungent—in a single fruit.

Schizandra berries have held an important place in traditional Eastern botanical practices, where they were considered a superior herb. The dried berries are commonly prepared as teas, tinctures, or powders, and have been integrated into various traditional formulations.
